Kompas Gramedia launched Kompas.com Reborn on Thursday, May 29th 2008 at Hotel Mulia Senayan. The launch officially marked the rebirth of Kompas.com which had gone through serious changes in layout, content management, format and features. The grand launch of Kompas.com Reborn was officially launched by the Minister of Communication and Informatics M. Nuh, Chairman of Kompas Gramedia Jakob Oetomo and CEO of Kompas Gramedia Agung Adiprasetyo.
The transformation from Kompas Cyber Media to Kompas.com was a year long process. Throughout the year Kompas.com has strategically planned its editorial content, built new infrastructures, increased its bandwidth and put its human resources in a single News Room.
The new Kompas.com has a cleaner look than before. The layout optimizes readability while still retain its aesthetical aspects. The site utilizes complementing tone of colors and clearly structured format instead of the competing color and cluttered format of rivaling news portals.
Another welcoming feature of the site is its synergy with other communication platforms. Kompas.com is enriched by contents from Radio Sonora. From the site users can stream live broadcasts or browse through its archive. The site also features Kompas Images, KompasTV, SelebTV and VideokuTV. VideokuTV allows users to become reporters themselves. Similar to CNN’s I-report and YouTube, users can upload their own news report in video format.
Previously, on May 24th 2008, Kompas.com received Cakram Award for Best News Portal Provider category, beating long time rival Detik.com and Okezone.com. Cakram awarded Kompas.com for its breakthroughs in terms of creativity, effectiveness, uniqueness and implementation of ideas. Kompas.com also received New Wave Marketing Award from marketing consultant MarkPlus Inc on May 27th 2008 for building participative and collaborative relations with its users.
Kompas.com will revolutionize the way we get and share information in Indonesia. What the site allows is convergence between mainstream and digital media. The site allows executives to get up to date and accurate information anytime and anywhere through their computers and mobiles. The interactive features of the site also allow for two way communications between provider and its readers. By posting comments, letter to the editors or uploading video reports; people can share their opinions and thoughts about current news event quickly, easily and inexpensively. This allows feedbacks to happen instantaneously and on an unprecedented scale. It enables companies to scan for public opinion on the current issues.
